The People Behind
the Estate

Kamalpur is defined not just by the tea we produce, but also by the people who make that production possible.

The tea that leaves this estate carries the work of people who know this land intimately. Their continuity is part of what makes Kamalpur's quality consistent. Our responsibility is to support that continuity, in practical ways, every day.

Kamalpur Tea Estate does not engage in or support child labour.

Life on the Estate

For many workers, Kamalpur is both a place of work and a home. Our responsibility extends well beyond the working day, ensuring that every worker and their family has access to essential services and support.

On-Estate Housing and
Healthcare Support

Workers and their families live within the estate, with water provided to all quarters, creating a close-knit community rooted in the land they tend to. Their well-being is supported by an on-site pharmacy, where

a trained chemist provides accessible

primary healthcare.

24x7 Transport

Free transport to schools and hospitals is available around the clock, ensuring that distance is never a barrier to education or healthcare.

Childcare and Early Education

On-estate childcare facilities, including a crèche, an SSK (Shishu Shiksha Kendra) pre-school, and an Anganwadi mother care centre, allow parents to work with peace of mind while supporting early childhood development.

Community Spaces

Dedicated areas for sports, gatherings, and events foster a sense of belonging, reinforcing that a well-run estate is also a good place to live.

Worker Welfare and Benefits

Provident Fund, gratuity, annual paid leave, and maternity benefits are provided in line with the Plantation Labour Act. Workers also receive annual Durga Puja bonuses as negotiated with trade unions.

Fringe Benefits

Permanent workers are supported with essential provisions, including annual firewood for cooking, yearly slippers and aprons, and blankets and umbrellas on an alternating basis.

Our Less is More Vision

Kamalpur's relationship with the land is built on restraint. The third generation's long-term vision is one of environmental and financial sustainability in equal measure — a garden that is healthy in the long run requires decisions made today that prioritise the land. Using sustainable initiatives, the goal is to maintain the estate so that it can continue operating responsibly for decades to come.

Plant Protection Code

Pesticide use is minimal, applied only when required and strictly in accordance with the Plant Protection Code. The health of the soil is a long-term investment. It cannot be recovered once it is depleted.

Spraying

River Hulia for Natural Irrigation

The estate is irrigated entirely by the Hulia, the perennial river that runs through the garden. No synthetic irrigation. The river that gives its name to our Huliajhora brand is the same river that has sustained this estate from the beginning.

Wildlife Coexistence

The forest that borders the estate to the west is a living system we work alongside. Elephants have the right of way. Every wildlife sighting is reported to the Forest Department. Workers are trained in coexistence, not intervention.

The Long View

Balanced teas as the season transitions, offering a full-bodied, mellow cup with smooth, warm, and robust notes and a softer bite than the First Flush.
